Our Services at Saint Thomas Eye Clinic

Vitreo-retina Services
Saint Thomas is one of the few centres in Ghana where vitreo-retina services are available on regular bases. With the installation of our 5000cpm 23-Gauge Galaxy TurboVit vitrector, we are pioneers in high-speed sutureless vitreo-retina surgeries in Ghana

Laser Services
We provide both diagnostic and interventional laser services. Our diagnostic range includes laser scanning of the retinal nerve fibre layer and optic nerve head as well as macular thickness analysis in both Glaucoma and Vitreo-retinal diseases,

Phacoemulsification
Cataract surgery is gradually moving into the laser age in the developed world and poor countries and poor countries cannot afford to get stuck into SICS. In 2010, Saint Thomas became one of the first hospitals in Ghana to provide phacoemulsification surgeries

Optical Services
A refractive error, or refraction error, is an error in the focusing of light by the eye and a frequent reason for reduced visual acuity.
At Saint thomas Eye Clinic we provide a wide range of Optical Services.

Information For Adults Having Adjustable Squint Surgery
A squint is caused by an eye muscle imbalance. A weak eye muscle can cause one eye to turn in, out, up or down.
Aims of Surgery
-
To realign the eyes so ‘control’ of drift is made easier. This is only possible if the patient has some ability to control their squint prior to surgery.

Saint Thomas Eye Clinic is well Known for performing several cosmetic squint seguries each year.
Resources: What is Glaucoma?

-
Glaucoma is an eye disease, which is usually painless, but which can cause serious loss of eyesight.
-
It is due to pressure within the eyes which rises above the normal level because of poor drainage of fluid within the eye. This causes damage to the main nerve to the eye.
-
The early loss of sight is often unnoticed because it is at the edge of the vision and unfortunately once lost cannot be restored.
-
It is the most common cause of irreversible blindness in Ghana, accounting for some 21% of all causes of blindness in the country
